LEICA M8

LEICA M8 Most product:
  • Compatible with quasi totality of optics LEICA since 1954
  • Sensor 10 megapixels
  • Sensor 18 27mm

Reserved for the lucky enthusiasts (whom I do not make unfortunately left).

Photokina, on 1954, LEICA takes out its first series M, M3, first of LEICA t l m triques with bayonets and interchangeable objectives, makes many emulators then. It is the beginning of the success story LEICA. Photokina, on 2006, LEICA is going again to make noise with the exit of first sound " M " numerical, M8. A br che of quality which opens in epoch of numerical.

This new apparatus t l m trique numerical in classical design for the lovers of the refreshed mark of functions of series M but with a numerical system in more. M8 has so a sensor CDD of 10 megapixels who converted the standard lenses M with a ratio of 1 (21 mm will become nearly of 28 mm, and 28 mm of 35 mm).

To note that M8 is not an adaptation of M7. It is about an entirely new apparatus, case, viewfinder and included sensor (M7 (argentique) who had gone around the hands of the biggest photographers of this century).

The constructor leant between other one over the problem of the vignettage. Because an apparatus t l m trique does not have mirror, it does not need retrofocus lenses, what means that lenses are more located near the film (in that case of the sensor). A problem of vignettage happens then with wide-angles.

At the level of the corners of the frame, the angle of impact of entrante light does not enter enough at right angles and comes back therefore in an unequal way across micro-lenses causing then an important vignettage.

To resolve this problem, LEICA made sure not to use sensor full frame, too expensive and complex indeed to produce a sensor covering a frame of 36 24 mm and working on a t l m trique system. So M8 disposes mm of a measuring sensor 27 18.

Characteristic side, M8 has a sensitivity included between 160 - 2500 ISO. What promises details worthy of an argentique (or almost). On the other hand, M8 is compatible with all lenses Leica produced since 1954. Notably thanks to the coding of 6 bit. An invention which allows the case to read information in an optic way and identifying so the type of lens from its base.

The speed of blocking goes down jusqu' integrated flash have 1/8000 seconds and allows a time of synchronisation of 1/250 of the second. Besides, M8 uses a new technology of flash called M-TTL main characteristics of which are that just before shot in flash, a pre-flash measures the light re-bent by the surface of subject and determines so exactly the requested power of flash.

The LEICA M8 also gives a bar chart of stocks RGB real-time as well as an indicator of overexposures fulfilled in light blinking and has a screen LCD of 2.5 thumbs.

LEICA M8 will be available from November, 2006
